Veteran Congress leader K Jagga Reddy from Telangana, who was also an MLA in the past, was on Monday arrested by the Hyderabad Police. It's alleged that Reddy holds a fake passport and visa.
A mass leader in Sangareddy district, Reddy is suspected to have visited the United States on fake documents way back in 2004. He did so with a woman and a child, submitting to the concerned authorities in both countries that they were his wife and son!
He will be charged under the provisions of the Passports Act, and the Emigration Act in the main. Since he went there with a woman and a child, he will be charged with human trafficking, too. Relevant Indian Penal Code sections will also be invoked.
The Congress has defended its leader by alleging that the caretaker Telangana Rashtra Samithi government is abusing the law. It said that Reddy was not issued a notice regarding the "fudged" documents.
