Director Teja, who awaits the release of Abhiram Daggubati's 'Ahimsa' later this year, is of the view that OTTs are not eating into the share of theatres in the post-pandemic era. In his latest interview, the 'Jayam' director said that the Telugu-speaking population that watches movies is too huge to be affected by streaming platforms.

Teja commented that only about 30 lakh Telugus watch OTT content on a regular basis. The filmmaker estimates that half of them have stopped coming to theatres or had not been coming to theatres before, too. About two or three crore viewers will always continue to visit cinemas, he added.

While Teja is in the exhibition sector and he might be qualified to speak on the issue, his view is not shared by producers like Dil Raju and S Naga Vamsi. In a recent interview, Naga Vamsi said that about 20-30% of the audience have completedly stopped watching movies in cinemas (unless they are spectacle movies like 'RRR' and 'KGF').
