Kotabommali PS has captured the attention of many, drawing inspiration from the Malayalam hit Nayattu. Leading up to the film's release, the cast and crew have undertaken an extravagant promotional campaign. Srikanth, Varalakshmi Sarathkumar, and Shivani Rajasekhar have already shared intriguing insights into Kotabommali, and today, director Teja Marini engaged with the media.

What prompted you to remake Nayattu as Kotabommali?

We didn't exactly plan a remake, but we wanted to present the intriguing concept of Nayattu to Telugu movie lovers through Kotabommali. The aspect I found captivating was the impact on individuals within the system. This mirrors the harsh reality many face, where various pressures hinder people from performing their jobs with complete freedom.

What is Kotabommali all about?

Kotabommali revolves around the by-elections in the region and how they transform the lives of three police officers. While it's not a remake, we drew inspiration from Nayattu's essence and added our emotional layers, turning it into a thriller. The film concludes on an emotional note in the second half, aiming to impart the value of voting to the younger generation and offering a cinematic experience. Those aspiring to become police officers can learn a lot from it.

How many changes did you make in Kotabommali?

The second half is entirely different, with only about 30% similarity to Nayattu in the first half.

Did you include realistic scenes, akin to Nayattu's National Award-winning approach?

I appreciate aesthetics, and while Kotabommali isn't a replica of Nayattu, I infused my aesthetics to provide a realistic feel. We shot in Naxal-affected areas, using caravans and vehicles to travel to villages for an authentic touch.

Remakes are not as successful currently; what's your take on this?

It depends on the subject. The era of remakes and dubbed films working has changed due to the OTT revolution. Viewers now compare the original and the remake. If audiences come to theaters after watching the trailer, they will appreciate it. We remake films to share a good story from another language with our audience, not because we can't come up with original ideas. There's nothing wrong with remaking sensible subjects.

Is the film related to current politics?

The film is not directly related to the elections in Telangana. It was supposed to release earlier, but Rahul Vijay's injury caused a delay. The coincidence of its release during the election season was unintentional. There are dialogues about elections, but they are general and not targeting any specific party.

Does the film touch upon freebies, governance, and social responsibility?

I feel a sense of social responsibility. I addressed this in Jawahar. We may not be able to change everything, but we should make an effort. If people vote for money, they have no right to question. It's up to them whether people will change or not.

The song "Lingi Lingi" became popular; what inspired its inclusion?

We wanted to include a Srikakulam folk song. I heard it at a wedding and had it done by a singer with a new beat. I never expected it to become so popular.

Did schedules get impacted due to Srikanth's revelation?

It was a mutual understanding based on Srikanth's commitments to big-budget films. I see it as an advantage for us.

Why did you choose Srikanth, Rahul, and Shivani for their roles?

Srikanth seemed apt for the role with his sarcasm, and Rahul fit the part we were looking for. Shivani's realistic acting style aligned with our vision.

Did you suggest the remake, and what's your preferred genre?

The idea came from both sides. I agreed to the project after being approached by Geetha Arts. I love emotional entertainers, apart from mass entertainers.

What about Varalakshmi's role?

Varalakshmi enjoyed her role, and it turned out well.
