It's not news that Taylor Swift's relationship with Kim Kardashian and Kanye West is strained after the 2016 infamous phone call incident. All in all, the song "Famous" by Kanye West was released, which had lyrics about being close to Taylor and that she may be the one who made him famous in 2016. The music video showed a naked likeness of Taylor on a bed right next to West and other well-noted celebrities.
Initially, Kanye alleged he got permission from Taylor after an hour-long discussion. However, it later turned out that while they had a discussion about the song, Taylor did not agree to be called by the derogatory term. Kim Kardashian would later release edited footage that seemed to support Taylor's support of the lyrics, and that caused public fury. Taylor received massive online bullying and went on a break before eventually releasing her album "Reputation," responding to the ordeal.
Fast forward to the present, when Time's Person of the Year, Taylor, talked about the disturbing incident in length. Honestly expressed how her career was manipulated and her mental health was severely affected after the whole ordeal. Taylor admitted feeling psychologically devastated, isolated for a year, and very suspicious of everyone close to her. Although she was afraid that the vengeance would damn her reputation forever, today, in 2023, her career has thrived, to say the least.
Reflecting on the ordeal, Taylor said, "That moment of backlash was going to define me negatively for the rest of my life." She underpinned initial skepticism towards "reputation," which luckily did not dampen her success.
Now in 2023, Taylor Swift finds herself at the peak of her career, having overcome the challenges that once threatened to overshadow her achievements.
