During the three day Pongal holidays, TASMAC sales has hit an all time high exceeding 500 crores. This is a rise in sales by more than 10 percent, compared to last year's sales. TASMAC has been constantly playing a prominent role in getting revenues for the state government, and there are more than 5000 TASMAC outlets in the state.
During Diwali 2018, the liquor sales in TASMAC had reached a massive 328 crores, and for Pongal, the collections have been miles ahead of the Diwali sales, exceeding by more than 175 crores. As the Diwali and Pongal seasons have holidays it has become common for liquor drinkers to throng to TASMAC outlets more than theaters, and this year was no exception.
While TASMAC management had expected sales of more than 700 crores, it has reached 500 crores, with Pongal festival day alone reporting 209 crores, and as January 16 was a holiday for TASMAC for Thiruvalluvar day, 17th January witnessed a rise in sales again. This year's 6 day extended Pongal holidays and the stocking of liquor prior to Thiruvalluvar day holiday have been attributed to the great sales in TASMAC.
