The way 'Tanu Weds Manu' had opened at the box office; it had clearly eclipsed the opening collections of 'Jab We Met' (2007) and 'Band Baaja Baaraat' (2010), two films belonging to a similar genre. However the way it continued to do well at the box office, 'Tanu Weds Manu' went on to create further records with its first week billing reading a whopping 18.5 crores. This is much higher than what 'Band Baaja Baaraat' (8 crores) and 'Jab We Met' (12 crores) had netted in their first week.

Many wondered if this was just a flash in the pan and the collections would subside as the weekdays would progress but that didn't happen either as this Madhavan and Kangna starrer stayed on to be stable for the entire week and even did well over it's second weekend (barring Sunday when a jolt was felt due to a crucial World Cup match for India). All of this was a clear indication that the film was grabbed by most and the word of mouth was largely positive to entice audience into stepping in for the film.

Another factor that went in its favour was practically nil competition. There was no film, whether in Hindi or English, which was running alongside 'Tanu Weds Manu' and hence this Aanand L Rai directed film gained the most at the box office. Many scoffed at the film's idea to be seeing a release at the commencement of World Cup but the makers are now having the last laugh as the film's run is not just restricted to one weekend but would now be enjoying a home run for the entire March.

All of this means that not just would the film now comfortably cross the lifetime collections of 'Band Baaja Baaraat' (23 crores) and 'Jab We Met' (30 crores), it would also cross the lifetime collections of 'No One Killed Jessica' (around 32 crores) and become the second biggest grosser of the year so far after 'Yamla Pagla Deewana'. Terrific results and a clean hit here.

Other release of the week, 'Satrangee Parachute', didn't have anything going for it and barely completed a week at the box office. With negligible collections to show, this non-starcast affair with a patchy story telling is a disaster at the box office.
