'Tandav', the Hindi-language web series streaming on Amazon Prime, has been in trouble over court pleas saying that it has hurt the sentiments of Hindus. On Wednesday, the Supreme Court held that the director and actors of the political thrillers can't be given any protection from possible arrest. The makers of 'Tandav' have FIRs filed against them in States such as Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.
"Your right to freedom of speech is not absolute. You cannot play the role of a character that hurts the sentiments of a community," the SC bench has been quoted as saying.
In its observation, the court suggested that actors can't get any protection when they signed up to say things they say in a movie as per the contract between them and the producer.
The web series, starring 'Adipurush' villain Saif Ali Khan, yesteryear star actress Dimple Kapadia and Mohd Zeeshan Ayyub, is directed by Ali Abbas Zafar. It started streaming on January 15.
