Love stories are dime a dozen. What adds flavour to movies these days is relativity to everyday. Although not in its entirety, Ramprakrash Rayappa has tried the most to match up on a science based story line, narrated to be understood by everyone, in 'Tamiluku En Ondrai Aluthavum'.

Story:

Four people about their ways are linked to each other on a deadly mission. A property promoter falls in love with a counsellor, a taxi driver loses his phone to a pick pocket, and a set of students are embarked on a mission to ensure uninterrupted cell phone coverage. And these three stories are linked together through a terrorist whose mission is on a cellphone activated bomb. The students buy a project for their assignment, from a geek, Vasanth; this project will ensure that cellphone signals are rerouted for uninterrupted service, in the event of an outage, predicted to befall on a day of national importance. Being Independence Day, a terrorist plans to plant a bomb to explode on the same day, and have it activated by cellphone. Does the city escape? Set on a thrilling journey, 'Tamiluku En Ondrai Aluthavum' runs till cellphone networks are restored and the bomb finally explodes.

Picture:

Nakul is cast as Vasanth, the one blessed with too much knowledge for a normal lad. What makes him even more of a point of attraction is his relation with his mother, played by Urvashi - in all, the two make for a realistic yet different family thriving on science. Sathish plays the comic taxi driver confused by the loss of his phone, but sportive as a person. Attakathi Dinesh plays the property promoter; although his mannerisms are typical of a happy-go-lucky love-struck lad, he still seems to remain heavily influenced by his role in 'Cuckoo'. Bindu Madhavi plays Dinesh's love interest, who carries a perennially mysterious image about herself, substantiated by a flashback that comes later.

The film on the whole is a new concept, but a screenplay with very minimal songs renders it long. Deepak Kumar's lens has captured a lot of colourful details; his special touch for the flashback is worth mentioning. With a lot of characters, the movie takes a while to establish everyone, and there a few predictable dialogues too that make the scene boring. However, given the unique concept, there is always a thread to hold on to, and something to look forward to, in the movie.

What impresses:

'Tamiluku En Ondrai Aluthavum' is undoubtedly an innovative movie and has a list of credits worthy of accolades.

1. Story is unique - a first of its kind Tamil thriller, bordering on sci-fi

2. It is logical throughout, and doesn't lack mettle anywhere owing to fiction crossing the lines of practicality

3. Music is enjoyable. Despite lack of number of songs on screen, Thaman's background score makes up for the lack thereof, also supporting the story to a great extent

4. The film is complete - no end is left unfinished 5. Climax

What could have been better:

While the positives elevate the movie, there are a few points that weigh the movie down too, despite the flick being a wholesome concept

1. Screenplay weighs heavy at close to three hours, with many predictable dialogues and moves which could have been eliminated to avoid cliché. The film seems to stagnate, post intermission

2. Lack of songs is also felt strongly, especially towards the end of second half

3. The way love and romance has been handled in the movie is unrealistic 4. Although the picture is clear, the angles are unusual. Dubbing also lacks sync in many places

'Tamiluku En Ondrai Aluthavum' is a movie heavily loaded with science, told in as light a mood as possible. There is comedy for those who want to chill out and science for those who are curious. In all, the film makes for a good entertainer.

Rating: 2.5/5 - Lighthearted thriller loaded with logic

Rating: 0 / 5.0
