Last week, it was announced by the Tamil Nadu chief minister Edappadi Palanisamy that a total lockdown will be implemented in Chennai, Coimbatore and Madurai for 4 days starting from April 26, and in Salem and Tiruppur for two days.

The total lockdown has caused huge chaos as people thronged in huge numbers to shops and markets to buy essentials, totally damaging the intentions of the total lockdown. Following a spike in number of cases, there were rumours that the total lockdown will be extended further.

However, it has been announced by the TN government that the total lockdown which ends by today 9 PM will not be extended in Chennai, Coimbatore and Madurai and after removal of total lockdown, the Chennai corporation and collectors of the respective districts will implement the lockdown till May 3 as announced earlier. Grocery and vegetable shops will be operational between 6 AM and 1 PM.
