The festive occasion of Diwali is just around the corner and the Tamilnadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) has issued guidelines to be followed on the day of Diwali.

The Board has allotted two slots, between 6 am to 7 am and 7 pm to 8 pm, during when the crackers can be burst. Strict action will apparently be taken against those who refuse to comply. It has also been ordered that fireworks should not be allowed in the vicinity of schools, hospitals, courts, huts, or places of worship. "Low decibel crackers should be used and bursting of crackers should be avoided near hospitals and places of worship. Crackers must also be avoided in inflammable areas and localities with huts," a statement released by the TNPCB read.

Diwali will be celebrated on October 27 (Sunday) this year, and a holiday has been declared by the government on October 28 as well.
