Tamil Nadu BJP president Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan has quashed rumours that she might soon quit the party over differences with senior leaders.
“These rumours don’t have an iota of truth in them and I don’t know where from these rumours emanate,” was Tamilisai’s response when asked to respond to the reports which appeared in certain sections of the print media on Wednesday.
Tamilisai has been in-charge of the State Unit for the past few years. Insiders say that she doesn’t share an excellent rapport with other leaders such as H. Raja, Vanathi Srinivasan and Union Road Transport Minister Pon Radhakrishnan. In particular, she seems to be having divergent views to that of Pon Radhakrishnan on major issues.
Tamilisai had demanded scrapping of the R.K. Nagar by-polls in April last year citing large-scale cash-for-vote scam while Ponnar didn’t feel the need to cancel the by-polls which were eventually cancelled. Likewise, while Tamilisai condemned the recent bus fare hike by the Govt. of Tamil Nadu, Poonar seemed to be going over-the-board in justifying the bus fare hike which only embarrassed party cadres in the State.
Rumours of Tamilisai’s decision to quit surfaced on social networking sites with a few journals even reporting about her impending resignation. However, Tamilisai has now made it clear that she is not planning to quit as the State president of the BJP and appealed to party cadres not to get carried away by rumours planted with purpose by vested interests who were vary of the BJP’s growth in the State.
