Tamilisai denies ‘BJP’ hand behind IT raids on Sasikala’s family

Tamil Nadu BJP president Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan has categorically denied that there was any ‘BJP hand’ behind the large-scale income-tax raids conducted in Tamil Nadu and elsewhere yesterday in more than 190 premises.

“The raids haven’t been sparked by any party or individual’s criticism of the Centre but have only been the results of complaints of evasion of tax received by the Income Tax Department,” Tamilisai asserted while speaking to newsmen in Chennai yesterday. She was asked to react to the large-scale income tax raids in Chennai and other cities including New Delhi on premises owned by Sasikala’s family and friends.

“Raids are usual practices indulged in by the Income Tax Department based on the complaints they receive and depending on the investments made by individuals and companies/firms,” she said and added that if one keeps his/her slate clean, he/she needn’t fear any Income Tax raids.

“The BJP doesn’t control the Income Tax Department which acts on its own based on the complaints they receive and the reports they are presented with,” she asserted.
