Kaviko Abdul Rahman is no more

Sahitya Akademi Award winning Tamil poet Kaviko Abdul Rahman has passed away early this morning (June 2, 2017) due to a prolonged illness. He was 80 when he breathed his last.

Abdul Rahman was born in Madurai in the year 1937. He worked as a Tamil professor in a college in Vaniyapadi and he was also getting recognized for his poetry work right from his young age. He was part of the popular Vanampadi Literary Movement an important movement of writers and poets in the history of modern Tamil literature. He is also a member of Tamil Language Promotion Board of the Central Institute of Classical Tamil.

Abdul Rahman is one of the most admired poets of modern Tamil literature. His poetry collection 'Aalapanai' won the prestigious Sahitya Akademi award in the year 1999. Apart from that he has won a lot of awards. He is a close friend of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Kalaignar M.Karunanidhi.
