It's known that Tuticorin in Tamil Nadu yesterday saw violent clashes between protesters (against a Sterlite unit) and policemen. Firing ensued and about 12 people have been killed.
Immediately after the sad turn of events, several Kollywood celebs took to social media to condemn the brutal killings. Rajinikanth, who was one of the earliest to react, said, "I am deeply saddened by the incident. I condemn the Government’s apathetic attitude towards people’s feelings."
Kamal Haasan suggested that the orders for firing were issued by the Centre. He condoled the unfortunate death of a member of his party.
Director Shankar said, "It is shocking and painful. My deepest heartfelt condolences to the families of the people who died in Tuticorin."
Vishal said, "If 50,000 people are protesting against Sterlite, it means there is unity among people to stop something which is against the welfare of the people of Tuticorin. Dear Prime Minister, please break your silence at least now. As BJP says, protest is a form of democracy. Why can't people do the same?"
"This is TOTALLY TRAGIC AND UNACCEPTABLE.. It’s simple THE WILL AND THE VOICE OF THE LOCAL PEOPLE THERE HAS TO BE ADHERED TO .. WHY CANT SOMEBODY HEAR THEM?" said Madhavan.
"Each and every bullet in the chests of dead protestors will come back to haunt this sham of a govt in Tamil Nadu. Deepest condolences and prayers for the murdered innocents and their families. What a dark day in our history," Siddharth tweeted.
