The Kerala Cyber Crime Police caught the admin of Tamil Rockers website for uploading new movies without permission. Identified as Jeb Stephen Raj from Madurai, the person was caught filming the movie Rayan in a Thiruvananthapuram theatre.
Often on the same day of its theatrical debut, Tamil Rockers is infamous for distributing pirated movies online. Just one recent victim of this piracy was the Malayalam film Guruvayurappan Ambalanadai, which showed on the website just one day following its release. One of the producers of the movie, Supriya Menon, reported the occurrence to the cybercrime police, which started an inquiry.
The cops found during their investigation that Stephen Raj possessed several pirated copies of recently released movies including Kalki and Maharaja. Looking further through his phone turned up many premium pirated movie recordings. Stephen Raj had been recording unseen by utilizing a smart technique: he would place his cell phone in a cup holder connected to the theater seat.
Operating surreptitiously to provide Tamil Rockers fresh pirated content, Stephen Raj has been residing in a guesthouse in Thiruvananthapuram for about a year and a half. The website paid him five thousand rupees for every new film. Pre-booking tickets for premieres, he kept a covert relationship with the Tamil Rockers group and sent the audio over WhatsApp.
Stephen Raj's phone, worth one lakh rupees, was loaded with pirated material, the cops noted. At thirty-three years old, he comes from Madurai and has been extensively involved in this illicit trade. The capture represents a major turning point in the continuous struggle against digital piracy.
