Kollywood producers have reportedly requested Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami to let them carry out post-production work on films that have been locked down due to the lockdown since March. As per them, dubbing, editing, VFX and such works can be done in studios even while social distancing norms are strictly adhered to.
“All our films under production have been stalled since March 24. The film industry has over Rs 500 crore investment bogged down due to the pending works on films that completed their shoots before the lockdown,” the letter says.
The producers add in the letter that work places will be regularly sanitized during the post-production works. "We will ensure that masks and gloves are on," the letter adds.
They hope that, even if theatres are not re-opened, they can release their movies on OTT platforms directly if it is viable.
In all probability, Telugu producers, too, are likely to place such a request before the Telangana government. Many small films are waiting to get onto the OTT bandwagon if theatres are not re-opened before August.
