A dalit man and a woman belonging to a backward community killed themselves on a railway track near Ambur in Tamil Nadu's Tirupattur district as their families were against their marriage.
The woman, identified as Nandhini (20), was working at a private textile manufacturing unit in Coimbatore, and was married to a relative when she was 18. However, she left her husband within 3 months of their marriage and had later befriended Ramadoss (29), who was employed at a workshop in Bangalore, via social media. The two of them recently decided to get married, but the girl's family refused to accept their union because of the boy's community while the boy's family were against the marriage because the girl had already been married. On Thursday evening, the couple had eloped from their respective homes and had gotten married.
Their mutilated bodies were reportedly found on the railway track on Friday morning. The couple had taken a selfie from the track moments before the suicide. A case has been registered under Section 174 of the CrPC.
