Accused in Lalithaa Jewellery theft case paid actress with robbed money

Two arrested in Lalithaa Jewellery robbery case

Two people, in connection with the Rs. 13 crore Lalithaa Jewellery robbery case, have been arrested and remanded in judicial custody for 15 days. 4.5 kg of gold has also been retrieved from the accused's vehicle.

The Thiruvarur police arrested one of the suspects, identified as E.Manikandan, who broke into the showroom with another suspect, Suresh, and stole diamond, gold, and platinum jewellery. Kanagavalli, the mother of Suresh, was arrested after the police found her with 450 g of the looted gold at her place. "While Manikandan had 4.5 kg of looted jewels, Kanagavalli carried 450 grams of jewels in her house at Seerathoppu, Thiruvarur. The police arrested her on Thursday evening and both the duo was produced before Judicial Magistrate – I Court in Trichy," an official reportedly told a news agency. Manikandan reportedly informed the police that their 'head' is Murugan, who has produced a Telugu movie, and that he paid Rs. 6 lakh to the actress of the film with the robbed money.

A case has been registered under sections 457 (lurking house-trespass or house-breaking by night in order to commit an offence punishable with imprisonment) and 380 (theft in a dwelling house, etc) of the IPC. The police are on the lookout for Suresh and other accused involved in the heist.
