Tamil Nadu: Youth commits suicide after unknown girl on Instagram blocks him

A young boy from Tamil Nadu’s Trichy committed suicide after a girl he allegedly met on the Instagram app blocked him.

The boy, identified as Anand Kumar, hailed from Salem. He worked as a cashier at ATMs that belonged to private banks. He had gone to his uncle’s place in Trichy two months ago and had been staying there ever since due to the nationwide coronavirus lockdown. Anand reportedly got acquainted with an unknown girl he met on Instagram and the two of them eventually became friends. He recently confessed his feelings for the girl, and informed her that he was in love with her. However, the girl apparently rejected his proposal and blocked him on Instagram. The family members had found Anand heartbroken and tried to console him. However, the boy was found hanging in his room later that day.

The boy’s body has been sent to a government hospital for a post-mortem. Police have begun a formal investigation on the matter in order to determine the whereabouts of the online friend and the events that triggered the boy to take his own life. Further updates are awaited.
