Over ten days after the custodial deaths of Jayaraj and Bennix, which has been condemned by people across the nation as there has been increasing number of complaints over police brutality, another related incident which happened in Tamil Nadu's Tenkasi a month ago has come to light.

A 30-year-old autorickshaw driver died at a government hospital in the neighbouring Tirunelveli district more than a month ago after being tortured by the policemen in his district for nearly 47 days. Following his parents' complaint, a case of suspicious death has been registered, with a sub-inspector and a constable being included as suspects. The investigation of the case will apparently be done by a police team from another district. "We have decided to appoint a police officer of another district to investigate the case to give no room for others to think that the inquiry is in favour of the police. As a part of the inquiry, the inquiry officer will analyse the footage recorded by the CCTV camera in the Veerakeralampudur police station. However, the CCTV unit will generally have the footage of the last 30 days only," Tenkasi Superintendent of Police (SP) Suguna Singh reportedly stated.

In his complaint, the victim's father had mentioned that the man's genitals were hit with boots and that a sub-inspector and constable stood on his thighs. The alleged incident happened on May 10. The deceased was first treated at a private hospital and was later shifted to the government hospital, where he breathed his last. Further details of the case are awaited.
