Tamil Nadu sets up its own State Food Protection Commission

In order to implement the provisions of the National Food Protection Act in its totality, the Govt. Of Tamil Nadu has set up its own State Food Protection Commission (SFPC).
The SFPC has been set up under the provisions of the National Food Protection Act, 2013. Vasugi, a retired IAS officer who was earlier heading the State-run SIPCOT, has been appointed as the chairperson of the SFPC.
Priya Selvi from Vellore, Ganesan from Pachamalai near Thuraiyur in Trichy District, Balaji Singh from Mugappair-Chennai, Aasaimani from Kayathur in Nagapattinam and Rajamohan from Valangaimaan in Tiruvarur District have been appointed as the Members of the Commission.
Governor Banwarilal Purohit has accorded his consent for the appointment of the chairperson and five Members to constitute the State Food Protection Commission. The gazette notification issued in this regard states that the chairperson and the Members would hold their respective for five years or till they turn 65 (whichever occurs earlier). SFPC is to function from an office in Ezhilagam, Chepauk, Chennai.
