Going back on their decision to reopen schools and colleges in Tamil Nadu on November 16, the state government has postponed the reopening to later dates, upon insistence from parents.
Schools and colleges all over the country shut down over seven months ago after the central government ordered a nationwide lockdown amid the Covid-19 pandemic. The Tamil Nadu government announced a couple of weeks ago that colleges and schools will reopen for students from classes 9 - 12. However, parents of most students from private schools expressed their displeasure in the announcement, fearing a second wave of the pandemic. Considering the requests put forth by thousands of parents across the state, the government decided to not reopen the schools on November 16. An official announcement regarding the postponed dates will be made after a thorough assessment of the pandemic situation in the upcoming weeks.
Colleges and universities have been instructed to begin from December 2 only for research scholars and final year postgraduate students of science and technology streams. The ongoing online classes are expected to continue for all UG and first year PG students until further notice.
