Tamil cinema already reeling in the wake of high ticket rates and low footfalls has been facing the demon of online piracy for the last decade or so.  The pirates known as Tamil Rockers and Tamil Box continue with their businesses with a sense of arrogance throwing out open challenges to the film producers regarding the "release" of their films on the same day as the official theatrical release.

While the menace has been growing each day the law enforcement for the first time has filed an FIR against tamilrockers.tv and tamilbox.net and another site following the complaint from a Producer Council member Rajasekharan  who has submitted proof of 'Ippadai Vellum' movie and citing that the entire film fraternity is made to suffer.

The complaint has been taken on by the Intellectual Properties Rights Enforcement Directorate who have assured action against the online pirates and we will have to wait and see what happens next.
