TN launches free breast reconstruction surgeries to the poor

In what might be the first of its kind in the world, Tamil Nadu’s health department launched a free service which would provide free breast reconstruction surgeries to the poor. Pertaining to this, a cosmetic surgery clinic is set up in a government hospital in Chennai.
“Why should beauty treeatments not be available to the poor?..If we don’t offer the procedure for free, they may opt for dangerous methods or take huge loans for it,” the state’s Health Minister C.Vijaya Bhaskar said. It is also worth mentioning here that the clinic was earlier offering this free reconstruction surgeries to cancer patients, but now it will be available to those who want it for cometic reasons as well.
Apart from the said procedure, others such as free cleft lip surgeries for children and hand transplants will also be done in the clinic.
