The Tamil Nadu government after requests from the film producers and theater owners and Thalapathy Vijay who met the chief minister personally issued an order permitting theaters to operate with 100 percent occupancy.

After the central ministry of health and the Madras High Court objected to the raise in the occupancy citing the coronavirus threat the TN government has withdrawn the order. However special shows have been permitted on the government holidays and festival dates. Theater owners and the audiences have been adviced to strictly adhere to the COVID 19 protocols by sanitizing regularly and also wear masks.

'Master' starring Vijay and Vijay Sethupathi is slated for release on January 13th and 'Easwaran' starring Simbu will hit the screens on the 14th.
