Leaving the entire Tamil community in a deep state of agony, Muthamizh Arignar Dr.M.Karunanidhi has passed away a few hours ago at the Kaveri hospitals in Chennai. When his death became imminent. The family members of the DMK patriarch had met the TN Chief Minister Edappadi K.Palanisamy and requested the latter to allocate a place near Kalaignar's political mentor Anna's memorial at Marina beach, to bury the mortal remains of Kalaignar.
However the latest statement from the Tamil Nadu Government has denied the request of the DMK leader's family which was also his dying wish. The circular from the Government's Chief Secretary Girija Vaidyanathan states that since there are many cases against allocating spaces for political leaders' memorial at Marina are ongoing in the Madras High Court, allocating space for Karunanidhi's memorial at the same site will create legal issues and hence the request cannot be accommodated.
However the Government circular stated that the five times Chief Minister of the state will be given full Government honors during the burial and the Government is ready to allocate two acres of Government land on the Sardar Vallabhai Patel Road, Chennai. It is the same road where the memorials of Mahatma Gandhi, former TN CMs Kamarajar and Rajaji are located.
This has not gone down well with the DMK cadres as well as the majority of people of TN. One hopes the situation is tackled amicably and the public does not get affected in this political tangle.
Meanwhile a DMK spokesperson has confirmed that the party has decided to move the Madras High Court tonight to get permission to bury the departed leader at Marina beach
