In a sudden move, the Tamil Nadu government has decided to hike the price of liquor in the state. After the hike, liquor prices in the state would go up by Rs.10 for every quarter.
The Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (TASMAC)’s decision to hike the prices comes after a three year hiatus. The last time prices were hiked for alcohol was in 2014. The decision to increase the prices came after a cabinet meeting was held which was headed by the state’s Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami.
Alcoholic beverages including beer will cost an extra Rs.10 while liquor 180 ml will be sold at Rs.100 instead of the previous cost of Rs.88. An official statement regarding the decision is awaited.
