A man and a woman, who hailed from the Cuddalore district of Tamil Nadu, committed suicide by throwing themselves in front of a train as their parents did not approve of their relationship.

The incident happened on Monday when the lovers decided to take the extreme step after they realized that there couldn't be progress in their relationship. The girl, identified as Swathi (22), a nursing student from Panruti, and the boy, Madan (22), a bike mechanic from the Kotlambakkam village, had been in a relationship for a long time before they decided to reveal the same to their parents, who refused to allow their marriage, much to the young couple's dismay. Unable to stand the trauma and depression, Swathi and Madan jumped in front of the Chennai-Rameshwaram express that crushed them to death.

Despite the efforts of the loco pilot, who tried to stop the train in time, the couple came under the wheels of it. The police were informed of the incident soon after, and their bodies were sent for post-mortem.
