Colleges were shut down and ongoing exams were halted after the coronavirus pandemic raised a global concern and while students have remained nervous in anticipation over the fate of their semesters examinations, an official announcement from the government has finally come their way.

Tamil Nadu Higher Education Minister KP Anbazhagan has reportedly announced that colleges shall reopen only in June and that the semester exams that had been scheduled for April/May will be conducted in June after the reopening of colleges. As the nationwide lockdown has been extended by another two weeks until May 3, several relaxations have been made, making it possible for a sector of people to resume their work. Further relaxations are expected to be announced as the number of cases start to go down across the country. Meanwhile, an official statement regarding the public examinations for classes 10 and 12 are awaited.

As on April 16 at 3.13 pm, a total of 12799 cases have been registered across India and 428 people have died. Tamil Nadu has reported 1267 cases and 15 deaths.
