Following a meeting held regarding monitoring of online classes, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin directed schools in the state to record online classes. Further, the recordings are to be regularly inspected by the school management and representatives of parent-teacher associations.
The announcement comes days after the arrest of PSBB's teacher Rajagopalan G, who was booked under various sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The teacher was accused of sexual harassment by several female students of the Chennai school. A committee consisting of officials from the department of school education, Director of College Education, police officials from the cyber crime branch and prevention of crimes against women and children, education issues and psychologists would be given a week's time to draft guidelines to curb sexual assault in educational institutions and guidelines regarding how to conduct online classes, according to the CM's statement.
While a separate helpline would be created for children to file their complaints, Mr. Stalin has also assured that action would be taken under POCSO against anyone behaving inappropriately during the online classes. Cybercrime police officials will acknowledge any such complaints and investigate in a way that does not affect students, the statement added.
