In a tragic incident, a 35-year-old woman from Tamil Nadu's Chennai was electrocuted to death after she stepped on a live wire that was hidden in a puddle of rainwater.

The incident happened in Pulianthope's Periyar Nagar and the woman's death was captured on a CCTV camera in the locality. The video shows the woman, identified as Alima, walking on the platform unaware of the snapped wire's presence inside the puddle. Her electrocution and subsequent death has shocked the residents all over the city who have been experiencing water stagnation in roads following the rains in the last few days. The residents have reportedly alleged that they have made multiple complaints to the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board but were met with no response. A resident reportedly told TNM, "The wire snapped 25 days ago and the electricity was passing through the water. The EB is simply telling us to call other departments. There are 16 members in our apartment and even a small child got an electric shock recently." Another resident apparently claimed that the authorities did not give a proper response even after Alima's electrocution. "We called the department and told them that a lady succumbed due to an electric shock and there was no proper response from there. Even the ambulance arrived only two hours later," a resident told TNM.

Meanwhile, the police informed the news agency that the reason for the woman's death could be ascertained only after they get the postmortem report. A case is currently booked under Section 174 (Inquiry into unnatural death) of the Indian Penal Code.
