In a shocking incident, a man from Tamil Nadu's Chennai killed his newly wed wife on their first night together as a couple and later committed suicide.

The incident happened on Wednesday in Chennai's Minjur, the same day the couple got married in a low-key wedding ceremony with less than 20 relatives present. The deceased have been identified as 24-year-old Neethivasan and 20-year-old Sandhya. Later that night, when the relatives of the bride and groom heard Sandhya's cries from the room, they rushed to break open the door to find the woman lying in a pool of her own blood with a crowbar beside her. Meanwhile, the groom had gone missing. The relatives immediately registered a complaint with the Kattur police, who found his body hanging from a tree.

The bodies of the couple have been recovered and sent to the Ponneri government hospital for a post-mortem. Police have begun an investigation to determine the cause of the murder and the suicide.
