Chennai: Coronavirus patient escapes from hospital; found dead in Cooum River

A 65-year-old coronavirus patient from Tamil Nadu's Chennai, who went missing from a government hospital, was later found dead in the Cooum river on Friday.
Local residents in the area allegedly found the man's body floating a few hundred metres away from the Napier bridge. Following investigation, it was determined that the man had gone missing from the Rajiv Gandhi government hospital on June 15, where he tested positive for COVID-19. However, exactly where he had spent his last couple of days remains unknown. He reportedly went missing just hours before he was supposed to be shifted to the care centre. The deceased man's body has been sent for a post-mortem.
As on June 19, a total of 381k cases have been registered across India and over 12573 people have died. Tamil Nadu has reported 52334 cases and 625 deaths.
