The Tamil Film Producers Council have decided to go on a strike on March 1st to protest against the monopolistic attitude of the two digital broadcasters who rule in Tamil Nadu. Cube and UFO are the two companies who have installed their digital projectors in theaters throughout the state and demand Rupees 34,000/- for a film's initial run and also charge a further 12,000/- per week for one print. Producers feel that these charges are very costly and beyond their means.
New companies are reportedly ready to charge Rs.4000/- per print for a short run and Rs.12000/- for a long run. To protest against the two digital broadcasters and to condemn their monopolistic attitue the Tamil Film Producers have decided to stop film produciton, shooting and releases from the said date which could bring Kollywood to a standstill.
