Pongal, the harvest festival celebrated with grandeur in Tamil Nadu, is also a time for vibrant cinema releases. The Tamil film industry has geared up with a stellar lineup of films for Pongal 2025, offering a wide range of genres and star-studded performances to captivate audiences.

1. Vanangaan

Directed by Bala, this action-packed drama features Arun Vijay and Roshni Prakash in lead roles. With G. V. Prakash Kumar's music adding depth to the narrative, Vanangaan is scheduled to hit theaters on January 10, 2025.

2. Kadhalikka Neramillai

A delightful romantic comedy directed by Kiruthiga Udhayanidhi, this film stars Jayam Ravi and Nithya Menen. Releasing on January 14, 2025, it promises a perfect blend of humor and love, making it an ideal festive treat.

3. Nesippaya

This romantic thriller by Vishnuvardhan introduces Akash Murali alongside Aditi Shankar. With its intriguing storyline and vibrant performances, Nesippaya is another notable release slated for January 14, 2025.

4. Game Changer

Directed by Shankar, this pan-Indian political thriller stars Ram Charan and Kiara Advani. Expected to release during the Pongal season, Game Changer aims to deliver a visually spectacular and gripping experience.

5. Sumo

This light-hearted comedy directed by S. P. Hosimin features Shiva and Priya Anand in lead roles. Sumo revolves around a sumo wrestler and his unexpected adventures in Tamil Nadu, making it a family entertainer to watch out for.

6. Tharunam

A suspense thriller helmed by newcomer Aravind Raja, Tharunam stars Siddharth and Andrea Jeremiah. The film's gripping premise and tightly woven narrative make it an exciting addition to the Pongal lineup.

7. Padaithalaivan

Padai Thalaivan directed by debutant U. Anbu, featuring Shanmuga Pandiyan, son of the legendary Vijayakanth, in the lead role alongside an ensemble cast including Kasthuri Raja, Munishkanth, Venkatesh, and Yamini Chander. Adapted by Parthiban Desingu, the story is set against the backdrop of Tamil Nadu’s elephant-taming community, exploring the struggles of a mahout whose peaceful life with his elephants is disrupted by encroachment from villagers and government authorities. Enriched by Ilaiyaraaja’s soul-stirring music, Produced by Director's Cinemaas and distributed by VJ Combines and Sumeet Arts, Padai Thalaivan joined the pongal race.

8. Madraskaran

Malayalam actor Shane Nigam is all set to make his Tamil debut with Madraskaaran. Helmed by Rangoli filmmaker Vaali Mohan Das, the film is produced by B. Jagadish under the banner of SR Productions. the film is expected to be a gripping drama that delves into the life of a common man navigating the challenges of urban living in Chennai. Nigam's entry into Tamil cinema has generated significant excitement among fans and industry insiders, who are eager to see how his acting prowess translates to a new linguistic and cultural context.
