The coronavirus lockdown has not only kept a majority of shops closed but also the government-owned Tasmac liquor shops which has downed shutters for the past one month. Alcohol addicts face both mental and physical side effects due to abstinence from drinking for such a long period of time and are willing to pay anything to get their hands on the bottles.
Tamil actor Rizwan who has appeared in many films including the recent controversial film 'Draupadi' was arrested last night at the MGR Nagar area for hoarding liquor and selling it for a very high price to Kollywood colleagues. 57 bottles of 180 ml liquor and 12 bottles of beer along with 2300 rupees cash was confiscated. He has confessed to the cops that he bought one bottle for rupees 1000 from one Pradeep a film production worker and sold it for rupees 1200 to his contacts. One bottle normally sells for under rupees 200/-.
The police then arrested Pradeep and his driver Devaraj and also found 189 bottles and rupees 20 thousand cash. Investigations are on to ascertain where Devaraj and Pradeep procured the liqour.
