Youths’ casual attitude in managing themselves while talking/operating cell-phones came to the fore at Chennai Airport yesterday when a Vijayawada-born Bangalore-based techie fell off to death while he was speaking on phone sitting on the rails of the aero-bridge atop the domestic Terminal at the Airport.
The 32 year-old youth, later identified as Chaitanya (son of Janardhana Rao) of Vijayawada, had been working for a popular software firm in Bangalore. He was spotted by passers-by when he was writhing in pain after a fall from the rails of the aero-bridge where he had been sitting and talking on his cell-phone.
Passers-by and Airport officials rushed him to a nearby hospital but the youth breathed his last on his way to the hospital. The incident occurred early in the morning at 06:20 a.m. after which the Airport Police registered a case. It turned out the youth succumbed to serious injuries he suffered on his skull. The identity card revealed his identity and details but it was not known why he had come to Chennai.
The youth didn’t have any air-ticket with him but it could have been booked via his i-phone which got severely damaged in the fall. CCTV footage revealed that the youth could have died in his attempt to take a ‘selfie’ while sitting on the rails of the bridge.
