Taj Mahal evacuated after hoax bomb call

On Thursday morning, the Taj Mahal in Agra was briefly shut down following Uttar Pradesh Police received a hoax call about a bomb. Reportedly, the Police received the call from an unidentified person at around 9 a.m saying that an explosive device had been placed inside the Mughal-era monument and it would blow up any moment.
Soon, the Police asked the visitors to vacate the heritage site and the search was conducted. Being a weekday, there were very few foot-falls at the premises of the iconic 17th-century monument. However, no explosive was found during the searches.
We stopped entry to the monument for around half an hour when the search was conducted along with a bomb disposal squad. No bomb was found, and now the situation is back to normal,” said Circle Officer (Sadar) Rajeev Kumar Singh, who was heading the police team that conducted the search along with CISF and ASI officials.
Reportedly, the threat call, which was received on Uttar Pradesh Police's emergency number 112, was made by a mentally unstable person who was being treated in Agra.
