Following the much-needed victory in Melbourne under Ajinkya Rahane's captaincy, team India is looking to make a few changes in the playing eleven for the third Test, especially since Umesh Yadav suffered an injury on the third day of the second Test.
According to reports, T Natarajan could be roped in by the management as Umesh Yadav's replacement in the upcoming Test match owing to his impressive innings in the limited overs series. Mohammed Siraj recently made his Test debut as Mohammed Shami was ruled out after he was struck on the arm. Although Navdeep Saini remains a replacement option for Yadav, Natarajan could apparently be preferred because of the variation he brings to the pace attack. "The selectors had added Shardul Thakur as a replacement for Mohammed Shami (out with a fractured forearm), and there is Navdeep Saini too, but it's very much likely that Natrajan would be preferred given that he brings variation to the attack. Also, Like Mitchell Starc does for Nathan Lyon, he would create footmarks which spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja can exploit," TOI quoted a source as saying.
Rohit Sharma is also expected to be part of the team for the third Test once he's deemed fit for the match. The batsman would likely replace Mayank Agarwal to open with Shubman Gill while KL Rahul could replace Hanuma Vihari in the middle order. "Rohit can either open the innings, or come at No 5, since he can then get time to find his groove after quarantining recently. If he plays in the middle-order, KL can open the innings, or it can be vice-versa," the source reportedly added.
