'Sye Raa' Teaser Review

When something is touted to be an epic drama, it has to start seeming like one right from word go. And the Teaser for 'Sye Raa' meets the expectations in the sense that its visuals are truly rich and intensity epic.
Circa 1800s (the exact year isn't going to be mentioned in the movie?), Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy rose like a lion against the British. He led a civil rebellion with his 10,000 followers. This uprising is what director Surender Reddy is expected to tell with fabulous detailing (based on the Gazetted information and British records of the time).
While the Teaser has splendid cinematography (by Rathnavelu, who uses lighting with perfection like very few in the country), reasonably good score (by Amit Trivedi, who has been described by the makers as a musical genius) and bright VFX (by Kamal Kannan), the tropes are usual. For example, the depiction of dehumanizing slavery is there.
The biggest moment has to be a super-angsty Chiranjeevi (as Narasimha Reddy) storming out on a horse. This is a 'Kodhama Simham' moment with a difference. 'What are we here for?' he shouts even as his fiery followers gleefully prepare themselves for a bloody battle.
A disappointment is that the midas touch of dialogue writer Sai Madhav Burra is missing. Paruchuri Brothers have penned the 'Moola Katha', after all it's their dream project. They waited for Chiru's nod for 12 years. Come Summer 2019, we will know whether the wait is worth it!
