Swarnam
Film maker Venugopan , a former assistant to legendary filmmaker Padmarajan, who has shown much promise with his early films like `Sharjah to Sharjah , `Choonda' and `Kusurthy Kurup' is back to Mollywood after a couple of years, with the new film 'Swarnam'. Teaming up for the first time with Kalabahavan Mani, the movie also features Praveena as the heroine.
Scripted by S Sureshbabu, the film tells the story of a group of people at Chamrampathy village, who take it as a profession to search for the gold deposits in the river banks of Shiruvanipuzha. Aachiyamma is the oldest of this clan who is aged above hundred. Divkaran is the grandson of Aachiyamma, who doesn't believe in the tiresome job of searching for gold, all the years. Instead he is more a greedy man who wants to make big money by hook or crook.
Divakaran is married to Radha for the last seven years. But still now, they don't have a child. The only other person in their family is the daughter of Radha's eldest sister, who died while giving birth to her. Divakaran, who dislike this small child, suddenly goes on a change in attitude following the divination from a local black magician who demands a five year old girl as a 'bali' in exchange for loads of gold that is soon to be discovered on the river banks. Divakaran's greed soon lands him to temptations that can lead him to grave evildoings.
The climax of the film which is based on the realistic plot was shot in Sabarimala. The other highlight of `Swarnam' is that, Superstar Mohanlal has lent his voice to introduce the plot of the movie.
`Swarnam' also features Baby Nayantara in pivotal role. "I am both the hero and the villain in the movie," says Mani who is teaming up with Praveena, six years after their blockbuster `Vasanthiyum Lakshmiyum Pinne Njanum'.
Even though Mani's lead character has got negative shades, debutante Vijayraj will appear as the villain in this movie. The cast also include Murali, Valsala Menon, Jagathy Sreekumar, Kozhikode Narayanan Nair, Indrans, U C K Thangal, Chertala Lalitha, Vijayan Peringod and Soniya. Salu George wields the camera while Mohan Sitara scores the music in the lyrics written by Vayalar Sarath Chandra Varma. Produced by Soman Pallat under the banner of Jyotirgamaya, `Swarnam' is slated for a release, this May.
