'Swarnakamalam' the dance saga by Kalatapasvi K. Viswanath A director whose films exemplified the Indian arts, culture and the nature was released exactly 25 years ago today. The movie was presented by KS Rama Rao, produced by CHV Appa Rao in which Venkatesh and Bhanupriya played the lead roles.
Swarnakamalam is the story of a girl who was bestowed fantastic dancing talents by the almighty but ignorant of her own prowess, she grows infatuated by the worldly successes and the money it gives until she was shocked by her father's death, her doting friend's uncompromising efforts and a divine message by great dancer Sharon Lowen. In the end, she realizes that our culture and dharma are more essential than alien luxuries and moves in the right direction.
The movie has won critical and commercial success besides several awards including Nandi, Filmfare etc. Music by Maestro Ilairaja with his heavenly tunes was the backbone of the film with Sirivennela's lyrics, Loknath's camera work everything stood out in the film making it a true masterpiece.
