Swapna Barman, the iconic sportswoman who has won a gold for India at the Asian Games 2018 in heptathlon, has been in the news for her inspiring feat. For a change, it's her village which is in the news.
The champion hails from Ghospara, a low-end village on the outskirts of Jalpaiguri town in North Bengal. Never did it have a concrete road. But in a matter of a few days, the gravel-laden road of the village leading to Swapna's house is being converted into concrete because VIPs are visiting the village to congratulate her family.
Labourers have been spotted building a concrete road after Swapna's recent feat. The Siliguri-Jalpaiguri administration has been working at a phenomenal pace like never before.
The champ's father was a rickshaw puller and her mother works in a tea garden (tea gardens are very famous in the region).
