Dashing hero Darshan is like a credit card today in Kannada cinema. The intelligent director only can encash his popularity. This is what exactly director cum efficient dialogue writer M.S.Ramesh has done in 'Swamy'. He has used his brain power while Darshan has used his muscle power on screen. There is no logic throughout but only Darshan magic. This film appears to be set for front benchers and Darshan fans.
In the first half 'Swamy' is a rowdy. When he reaches his goal in the capacity of rowdy he turns back with cop uniform and startle his opponents. Till then the director does not give the clue anywhere. He takes the audience by series of surprises once rowdy turns as a cop. This is at the interval point. Desai the hard core criminal ruling the North Karnataka slowly falls down in his popularity because of the brain and muscle power of Swamy now Assistant Commissioner of Police. In the meanwhile Swamy corrects his department, brings awareness of education, throws some message on the need of loyalty. When the heat is too much Swamy makes a master plan. He eradicate the two sons of Desai on the charges of illegal weapon deal and the right hand of Desai transform as a good human being. There is a crooked politician who is always behind the charisma of Swamy. In the final bout Swamy comes to the den of Desai where the crooked politician changes his stand. In one shot Swamy manages to end Desai and the politician.
The Kannada film viewers have seen the swashbuckling performance of Darshan. He looks like Vinod Khanna of Hindi films of yesteryears in cop uniform. He is romantic too in this film. Full marks for his hard work and he has been sensible in picking up this action extravaganza. Gayathri Jayaram the diving specialist (Scuba diver) looks beautiful and she has the right talent and her body language is good. Rangayana Raghu, Avinash and Shobaraj have given good support. In the comedy with undercurrent of corruption there is some good relief.
Gurukiran the No.1 music director of Kannada filmdom today has scored two lovely tunes out of five. The background score is painful. Photography of outdoor locations are splendid.
A feast for Darshan fans. Darshan being a Mysorean - the place where the Dasara festivities has begun this will be a Dasara bonus for his fans.
