Swami Naidu, a die-hard Chiranjeevi fan, has urged the Centre to confer Bharat Ratna on Megastar Chiranjeevi for delivering a great performance in 'Sye Raa'.

Whether or not Chiru deserves the highest civilian award is a debate for another day. But it has to be borne in mind that Bharat Ratna is not given for any single performance. It's not a Best Actor award. It's given for a lifetime of unique contributions which are worthy of the greatest recognition.

In any case, the Centre is yet to give the highest honour to legends like NT Rama Rao and PV Narasimha Rao. Given this reality, it's ridiculous to expect Chiru to be given precedence over other greats. Perhaps, urging the Centre to give Padma Vibhushan to Chiru would have made sense.
