The suspense surrounding the Congress Chief Ministerial position in Telangana has finally come to an end, with TPCC President A Revanth Reddy emerging as the chosen candidate. Having played a crucial role in revitalizing the party over the past six months, Revanth Reddy is set to become the youngest Chief Minister in the history of Telangana, with the swearing-in ceremony scheduled for Thursday at 10 am.
The decision, finalized by the AICC after thorough consultations with all contenders and party observers, underscores the strategic planning involved in the selection process. The name of Revanth Reddy has been formally conveyed to D K Shiv Kumar, who has arrived in Hyderabad to make the official announcement, expected imminently. Meanwhile, Party General Secretary K C Venugopal held discussions with Shivkumar and Bhatti Vikramarka in New Delhi.
Sources suggest that Bhatti Vikramarka is likely to assume the role of Deputy Chief Minister, adding another layer to the leadership structure. Concurrently, N Uttam Kumar Reddy, a contender in the race, presented his case to party leaders, emphasizing his seven-time electoral victories on Congress tickets and his dedicated service with a military background. Despite this, the party high command has firmly decided on Revanth's candidacy.
In a gesture of commitment, Uttam Kumar Reddy is poised to submit his resignation to Lok Sabha, paving the way for him to take the oath in the state Assembly. The Congress party, through a meticulous process of deliberation and consultation, expresses confidence in Revanth Reddy's leadership capabilities as he prepares to assume the significant role of Chief Minister in Telangana.
Revanth Reddy played a pivotal role and galvanised the Congress party by singlehandedly taking on BRS chief and its party chief KCR who had ruled the state for two consecutive terms. Revanth Reddy's speeches appealed to voters who voted for the Congress party.
