The entire state of Tamil Nadu was with Surjith and his family as rescuers tried their best to save his life after he had fallen into an 80 feet hole dug for a borewell near his house in Nadukaatupatty in Trichy. Sadly, after eighty hours of efforts only the two-year old's body could be recovered. His last rites were conducted on Tuesday morning and now the government has passed strict orders to convert all open well into rain harvesting facilities.

A shocking news has emerged that only five months back Surjith's uncle Leo Arockiadoss too died falling into a similar 70 feet well behind the house. The 43 year old army man had visited their house on leave and when a hen fell into the well he had climbed down using a rope but on his way up had lost control and plummeted down sustaining multiple injuries. After his body was recovered the family had used a metal grill to close the two-meter diameter well hole. Sad that not one but two similar tragic deaths had occurred in Surjith's family in a space of just five months.
