Recently, 'Chandramukhi' actress Jyothika commented at an awards function that hospitals and schools have to be maintained on a par with temples in Tamil Nadu. Her remarks didn't go down well with some on social media, who ascribed motives to her in making the 'offensive' comments.
On Tuesday, actor and Jyothika's husband Suriya came out in support of his wife. He backed her comments by saying that even great spiritual leaders such as Swami Vivekananda have held similar views.
"She only said that just as temples are held in high regard, so also must schools and hospitals be. As per some, she committed a crime. Serving humans is like serving God. Great men have espoused this idea," the 'NGK' and 'Aakasam Naa Haddu Raa' actor said.
"Her speech is inspired by the teachings of spiritual leaders and I and my family stand by her. Humanity is more important than religion. This is what we are teaching our kids at home," Suriya added, thanking all those who have supported Jyothika in these times.
