Suriya's 'Soorarai Pottru' directed by Sudha Kongara became the first movie by one of the top five heroes in Tamil cinema to release directly on OTT. The film started streaming on Amazon Prime Video on November 12th winning one of the highest critical acclaims in recent years.

In the past six months 'Soorarai Pottru' has continued to gain headlines first for record viewings on the Indian level on Amazon Prime. Later the film entered the Oscars race and was considered for Best Picture, Best Actor and Actress categories which is a huge milestone in Tamil cinema in spite of not getting nominated.

After continuing to garner acclaim in several international film festivals 'Soorarai Pottru' directed by Sudha Kongara and starring Suriya and Aparna Balamurali has just been selected for the 24th edition of the Shanghai Film Festival as well.

'Soorarai Pottru' has also become the highest rated Indian film ever on the prestigious IMDB website and ranks third in world cinema after the all-time great films 'The Shawshank Redemption' and 'The Godfather'. The film has a rating of 9.1 while the other two have 9.2 and 9.3 respectively.

The Anbana fans are celebrating big time on social media the records made by 'Soorarai Pottru' and they just cannot wait for the release of Suriya's next films 'Navarasa', 'Suriya 39' and 'Suriya 40' which are under production.
