Recently, when Suriya wrote an open letter against holding NEET exams in the wake of the suicide of three Tamil Nadu students, he unwittingly invited the anger of a High Court judge. The judge appealed to the Chief Justice of the Madras High Court to initiate contempt proceedings against the 'Bandobast' actor.

On Friday, the court opined that Suriya's comments were not a contempt of court. However, it said, the actor's comments were "unnecessary and unwarranted".

After the HC's observations, the actor took to Twitter to put out a statement, thanking it for not initiating contempt proceedings. "I am deeply moved by the institutional magnanimity of the Indian judiciary. I have always held our judiciary in the highest esteem, which is the only hope for upholding the constitutional rights of our people. I am humbled and inspired by the fairness and justice demonstrated by the Hon'ble High Court."

On the work front, Suriya's 'Aakaasam Nee Haddhu Ra', directed by Sudha Kongara, will hit Amazon Prime Video on October 30 in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam.
